Festive interesting chikki with ice-cream and oats

Festivals in India are always amazing and food for every festival is different. One festival which we Indian celebrate is Makar Sankranti which is related to kite flying whole day and the main food or snack on this day is chikki. Chikki is a kind of snack which is made by using jaggery and peanuts or sesame seeds. But these chikki are with some twist and some interesting element which you can add in our party menu or showcase when your guests are there as they are so easy to make. Ingredients required for preparing Festive interesting chikki with ice-cream and oats are:

For chikki with ice-cream:
Vanilla ice-cream – 4 scoops
Sugar – ½ cup
Cashewnuts (roasted and crushed) – 2 tbsp
Almonds (roasted and crushed) – 2 tbsp


For chikki with oats:
Oats – 1 cup
Walnuts (chopped) – ¼ cup
Jaggery – ½ cup
Ghee – 1 tbsp

Method for preparing Festive interesting chikki with ice-cream and oats is:

For chikki with ice-cream:

  1. Take a pan and add sugar in it with 2 tbsp of water and cook it for around 5 to 7 minutes or till sugar caramelises.
  2. Take a bowl and mix together the sugar caramel, ice-cream, cashewnuts and almonds.
  3. Freeze this for around 1 hour.
  4. Now scoop out the individual portion and serve immediately.

For chikki with oats:

  1. Take a pan and add dry oats and roast them on medium flame for around 4 minutes. Keep aside in some small bowl.
  2. Take the same pan and add ghee in it and then add jaggery and mix well.
  3. Cook it on slow flame for around 3-4 minutes while continuous stirring.
  4. Remove the pan from flame, add roasted oats and walnuts and mix well.
  5. Transfer the mixture immediately on a greased surface (with oil) and roll into a rectangle shape by using rolling pin.
  6. Cut into 12 equal portions with a knife.
  7. Allow it to cool completely.
  8. Chikkis with oats are ready to serve and they can be stored in air-tight container.
  9. These chikki can stay fresh for 3 to 4 days when stored in air-tight container.
